ROCKFORD - The kickoff to the Rockford Peaches 75th Anniversary celebration to benefit the International Women’s Baseball Center is off to a rousing start with IWBC Chairman Dr. Kat Williams to appear on morning shows for television and radio.
Williams and IWBC board member Greg Schwanke will be part of a live remote on Rockford’s WREX-TV 13 from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Friday morning. WREX’s Austin Love is hosting the show at the BMO Harris Bank Center to publicize Rockford Peaches night by the Rockford IceHogs minor league hockey team.
A section of the BMO has been set aside Friday night for Peaches fans at a special cost of $15. Of the $15, $5 will go toward the IWBC capital campaign to build a $7 million educational center and museum in Rockford. Check out the show in the morning and then catch the game at night.
Dr. Williams and Schwanke will be up again early Saturday morning. The two will be on the WROK 1440 AM Stateline Sports Hour. The show, which runs from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., is hosted by Peaches 75th Anniversary publicity chair Alex Gary and Tom Warner. Warner has a special tie as well. He’s related to Margaret Jurengsmeier Carroll, who pitched for the Peaches in the 1951 season, winning one game in nine appearances.
So check out Dr. Williams and Schwanke Saturday morning as well.

A National Baseball Tournament for Girls
July 27-July 31, 2017: Rockford, IL
Home of the AAGPBL Rockford Peaches!
Baseball For All's 2017 Nationals is expected to be the largest girls baseball tournament in U.S. history, serving approximately 200 girls. This will be our 3rd National tournament (Orlando, 2015; San Francisco 2016) and will include age divisions: 11u, 13u, and 17u.
Fun, friends, and inspiration are the themes of the week. This life-changing event will bring together the past, the present, and the future of girls baseball. Players will make friends with girls from around the country who love baseball as much as they do.
We want our girls to know they belong in baseball whether they're playing, coaching, or leading. All players will have the chance to learn the basics of umpiring and meet women who work in baseball.
To ensure the success of Nationals 2017, the tournament is a joint effort between Baseball For All, the International Women's Baseball Center, Friends of Beyer Stadium, Rockford Convention and Visitor's Bureau, City of Rockford, and Winnebago County.
Nationals will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the movie, "A League of Their Own." All teams in the 17u division will have a chance to play at historic Beyer Stadium, the home of the AAGPBL Rockford Peaches. The International Women’s Baseball Center will host opening ceremonies at Beyer Field on July 27.
Player fee is $300 (17u) / $250 (13u,11u) and includes:
- 5 games (weather permitting)
- Opening ceremonies
- Game hat
- Tournament bowling party
- Umpire clinic
- Meet AAGPBL players Maybelle Blair and Shirley Burkovich
- Nationals T-shirt
- Pitching clinic with former minor league player Ila Borders
Beyond Nationals, your player fee helps continue Baseball For All's important work to fight discrimination and grow girls baseball throughout the year.
Players may register as a team or as individuals. For more info, please e-mail Baseball For All here.
Over Labor Day weekend 100s travelled to Rockford, IL to watch 6 teams compete in a tournament won by the Great Lakes Lightning over the Chicago Pioneers, 1-0. They also came to be a part of history. On Saturday evening, September 3rd, the City of Rockford handed over the keys to the IWBC of a new home for women's baseball. Forever the city and women's baseball will now be linked as past, present and future came together to dedicate the beginning of the new museum and education center. The center will be named for former players and IWBC Board members Maybelle Blair and Shirley Burkovich.
The new center will be an interactive walk through the history of women in baseball from the 19th century to the present.
